Antennaria dioica (Mountain Everlasting)


There are now two confirmed populations on Hutton Roof at the moment although I have it on good authority that there could well be yet another population in the Ploverlands area.

Looking at the various distribution maps for this species, I would imagine it is at the most southerly point of its range.

It is a very popular plant and so interesting in its various features. I have noticed the flowers can show several varietal forms which you can see is represented in the photos shown below.

The male plants have vertical stamens which stick up like lit candles (some examples are shown below)

Holme Stinted Pastures
7th May 2020

Antennaria dioica (Mountain Everlasting) population, this time on Holme Stinted Pastures. A small group with approx 24 flowers contained in a area of approx less than one metre. The flowers are currently between 3 to 5cm (2" to 3")
